Tournament Descriptions

Dagger Valhalla: 9 AM to 10 AM, List 1

The classic Valhalla Circle of Death, but daggers only! Get the blood pumping with some close-quarters fighting to start the day.

First round begins when there are at least three fencers present and ready, usual Valhalla rules. Fighters form a ring, and your first engagement must not be with someone whom you are adjacent to. Defeat all of your opponents, and remember the fighter who defeats you if you die. When they’re eliminated, you’re back in! In the case of double kills, stay at the edge of the list field for a 10 count, then both rejoin the fight. You win when you have killed every other member of the Circle, in this case you get one point and the next round begins.

Novice Tournament: 11 AM to 12 PM, List 1

On the newer side of rapier? This is the tournament for you.

Have you never won a fencing tournament at an event? Have you been fencing fewer than three years? Do you hold no Kingdom rapier awards? Then this is the tournament for you. Round robin pairing of all fighters, best of three.

Progressive Forms Tournament: 11 AM to 12 PM, List 2

Outlast your opponents, but beware; killing them may make them more dangerous!

All fighters begin with single sword only. If you are defeated, your next match will be fought with sword and defensive secondary (cloak, cane, buckler, etc.). If you are defeated a second time, your next match will be fought with sword and dagger. If you lose a match while holding sword and dagger, you are eliminated. Fighters will be re-paired until only one remains standing!

Youth Combat: 11 AM to 1 PM, List 3

Open rapier & armored combat for ages 6-17.

More details forthcoming.

The Sword of Pentamere: 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM, List 3

Master Maximilian Der Zauberer will hold the field against all comers to defend The Sword of Pentamere, our regional traveling rapier prize!

Cut and Thrust Points Tournament: 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, C&T List
This scored tournament rewards clean fencing and being mindful of your own defense

The tournament will be a round robin, with each fencer scoring points according to the outcome of the match.

  • 3 points for a clean shot to the head or torso (lethal blow)
  • 2 points for a clean shot to the leg, or to both arms (disabling blow)
  • 1 point if you do either of the above but are struck in the attempt

Double kills are zero points and are not refought.

Winner is the fencer with the most points.

The Grand Tournament: 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, All Lists

The highlight of the day!

Test yourself in a double elimination tournament of the highest caliber for the title of Grand Tournament Champion…with an extant coin as the prize! Speaking of pretty penny, place bets on the outcome of the fights and try to win the gambling prizes too! The tournament will be a double elimination bracket, best of three per match.

Bear Pit Tournament: 3:30 PM to We Feel Like Stopping, Lists 1 and 2

In case you feel like you got to the end of the day without enough fencing, here is the solution for you!

The bear pit will run as long as there are fighters to line up or until the lists close, whichever comes first. Bring whatever styles you like, but wounds gained in the pits are retained, so fence carefully! Each victory gets you one point, highest score at the end is the winner! Double kills will be a loss for both fighters, replaced with two new fighters from the line.
