Award of the Elephants Heart

Awarded to Ilex av Ulfvidh (also known as Ilex of Cynnabar) (modernly known as Holly Elliot)

By the Barony of Cynnabar on 2017-08-09

On the Norns’ settle sat We nine days;
to the loftiest were We then lifted;
out of clouded sky clearly shone
the sun that lights our souls.

A woman saw We then, with warmest heart
who had helped the humble;
were clean candles kindled over her
which shone, burning brightly.

A woman saw We then who welcomed all
with meat for the weary ones’ mouths:
was her resting place on rays of heaven,
forever at ease and in bliss.

Having seen her good works, We, Ermenrich and Kasha, are agreed that this woman, Ilex av Ulfvidh, shall be granted Our Award of the Elephant’s Heart. Let none countermand Our words.

Based on an excerpt from a Middle Irish dindsencha found in the Rennes Manuscript (probably written 15th century but preserved orally as early as the 11th).
